I’m delighted to have two recent prints featured in the upcoming Ekphrastic Fantastic art and poetry exhibition, which runs from mid-November 2026 through January 2027 at the New Deal Café in Greenbelt, Maryland.
The annual show pairs local poets with visual artists. In an ekphrastic pairing, a writer creates a poem in response to a visual piece of art (or vice versa), often keeping the creator's identity secret from their partner during the process.
Roadside poppies, 2026
I made this screenprint as an artist in residence in Aviario Studios in Portugal. I drew three overlaying transparencies based on photos I took while walking near the studio, and Cristiana helped me to burn and hand-print the screens.
Stained glass, 2026
I made and hand-colored this drypoint print with watercolor pencils, based on the poem about a broken stained glass window of St George slaying the dragon. Inspiration came from stained glass windows I saw while on an artist residency in Belgrade, Serbia, as well as a series of embroideries by Phoebe Anna Traquair circa 1904.
